A novel reliability index approach and applied it to cushioning packaging design

This paper is aimed at proposing a new approach to Reliability-based Design Optimization (RBDO) and applying it cushioning packaging design with highly nonlinear system. The problem formulated as an RBDO problem, which included minimizing cost function probabilistic constraints. Here, the thickness of cushion material dealt uncertainty uncontrolled parameters. traditional reliability index (RIA) has evolved powerful tool solve problem; however, due its convergence modified (MRIA) proposed. Although MRIA method solves problems RIA, inherits low efficiency searching for most probability point (MPP). Thus, we developed novel RIA based on improve robustness during process. innovation active set strategy in assessment, strict inequality determine whether current constraint or inactive. An application example presented, results are compared assess cost-effectiveness efficiency. Results indicate proposed feasible materials processing process also efficient method.
